History

KIN Canada was founded on Feb. 20, 1920 in Hamilton, Ontario by Harold A. Rogers (1899-1994).

Rogers was 21 and had just returned from the trenches of the First World War when his father, a prominent Rotarian, encouraged him to get together a few young men his own age. However, when Rogers decided to join the same Rotary club as his father, his application was rejected. It was the policy of the Rotary not to have two members from the same business establishment. As a result of this rejection, Rogers and a small group of men gathered for a dinner meeting and became the first Kinsmen Club – the Kinsmen Club of Hamilton, Ontario.

KIN Canada is an all-Canadian service organization comprised of hundreds of clubs with thousands of dedicated member volunteers across the country. Volunteer members of each club work together to identify where they can best help within their communities and then mobilize to make a meaningful impact in those areas.

Since our Association’s founding in 1920, Kin Canada clubs have invested more than $1 billion dollars and countless volunteer hours into Canadian communities.

Service organizations like Kin Canada are pillars in communities nationwide, often filling gaps, supporting other local community-focused organizations, building new community infrastructure, and creating opportunities for community connection and recreation.

The Kinsmen Club of Calgary was formed December 18, 1924, at the Tea Kettle Inn, thirteen fellows met under the chairmanship of John Ross and inaugurated the KINSMEN CLUB OF CALGARY.”

Fast forward 100 years and you will see that our Club is alive and well, and continues to “Serve the Community’s Greatest Need”!
